Distribution over product
The view that getting attention is the hard part of a business and matters as much as or more than the product, so distribution should be planned before building.
About 40 episodes carry the refrain that building is the easy part and distribution is the real job. Guests say it in many forms: without eyeballs ‘you’re toast’ (Jozef Gherman), ‘if nobody knows about your app, it doesn’t exist’ (Jake Glacer), ‘the best product doesn’t win, the best known one does’ (Sarah Pearl), and distribution ‘has become the moat’ (An Nayal). App founders in 2025-26 add that AI has made building cheap, so marketing is the skill to learn (Ethan, Kyan, Cedric Roberge, Mau Baron). The practical corollary is to plan distribution before building (Rob Hallam, Presh, Cedric Roberge) and, when an app stalls, to fix distribution before concluding there is no product-market fit (Pat). About 40% of the material is the presenters’ own commentary - Pat’s ‘distribution is everything’, his story of a perfected Starter Story launch that got zero users, and Gus’s summary that ‘it’s all about marketing’ - so this page is the channel’s editorial line as much as a finding. Dissent exists: Lane Wagner says a small team must be confident the product is good first, George Lampropolis pushes back on the slogan, and Pat himself says in one episode that both product and distribution are needed to last.

Where guests disagree
Does distribution matter more than the product? ⚠️
- Yes: distribution and attention win; the best-known product wins (presenter · 9 Things That Make Me $1.8M/Ye (Oct 2024) ▶ 09:12) (Sarah Pearl · Sarah Pearl (Jul 2026) ▶ 08:18) (Roman · Roman (Sep 2026) ▶ 05:10) +1 more

Stories & examples
- The perfect launch nobody saw: He spent months of nights and weekends perfecting the Starter Story landing page, design and font, pressed publish and got zero users. Lesson: Perfecting a product doesn’t bring users; distribution does. (presenter · I Hacked Reddit To Build A $1M (Jun 2024) ▶ 01:27)
- Several apps built, none marketed: In early 2025 he built several apps but marketed none and they made no money. Lesson: Marketing, not building, was the missing piece. (Ethan · Ethan (Apr 2026) ▶ 02:59)
- A year on a ‘Tinder for sports lovers’: After university, inspired by The Social Network, he lived with his parents, worked as a part-time waiter for about $10/hour and spent a year secretly building a sports-dating app with no business plan, then realised it would never exist or make money and threw the code away. Lesson: Arrogant, secretive building without a monetisation plan wastes a year. (Marc Lou · Marc Lou (Aug 2024) ▶ 02:45)
- Learning to code by pasting errors into ChatGPT: After failed attempts at a book, t-shirts and a crypto YouTube channel, he learned to code; Curiosity Quench broke constantly but he kept feeding errors to ChatGPT until it worked, then spent months finding marketing angles. Lesson: Building is only the start; distribution took months more work. (Jack Friks · Jack Friks (Mar 2025) ▶ 03:22)
Numbers
- Users on launch day: 0 users (host’s framing) (presenter · I Hacked Reddit To Build A $1M (Jun 2024) ▶ 02:00)
Caveats & warnings
- 10-15 installs a day is not thousands of paying customers; a scalable strategy is needed. (presenter · Ethan (Apr 2026) ▶ 09:36)
- Building alone doesn’t bring customers; anyone can build a guitar app and make nothing. (presenter · Kyan (Jun 2026) ▶ 06:45)
- He pushes back on the popular view that distribution is the most important thing. (George Lampropolis · George Lampropolis (Dec 2025) ▶ 06:09)
- Usually founders get the product right but not distribution; Eyal and Yahli had the reverse. (presenter · Eyal & Yahli (Nov 2025) ▶ 10:13)
How much to trust this
- Evidence: 42 episodes, 30 independent speakers (repeat guests counted once; Pat and Gus counted as one voice).
